Medical Training

The practice is privileged to be involved in medical education at several levels. Fully qualified doctors experienced in hospital medicine have to undergo training to specialise in general practice. These doctors are known as registrars and usually spend one year in the practice. As part of registrar training, consultations are occasionally recorded on videotape but only after permission has been received from the patient. Additionally, hospital trainees and medical students occasionally sit in with our doctors as part of their training. The receptionists will inform patients of the presence of a student and, if the patient prefers, the student will leave the room for the duration of the consultation. There will be a GP registrar at the practice from February 2006 onwards

PRACTICE NURSES

Nursing services manager Michele Hassell and sisters Chris Hickinbotham, Cheryl Jones, Cheryl Cant, Sarah Porley and Yvonne Dearne assist the doctors in a wide variety of activities including cervical smears, ear syringing and ECG recordings. They provide advice on promoting better health, travel immunisation, stopping smoking and weight reduction. They play an important part in the regular review of hypertension, diabetes, asthma and contraception. All appointments can be made at reception.

DISTRICT NURSES

Our district nurses work closely with us and are able to provide treatment at home and advice about care and convalescence after discharge from hospital. They may be contacted via the surgery.

HEALTH VISITORS

The health visitors can give expert advice on your own and your family’s health care. They run the child health clinics with the doctor. The health visitors are happy to give advice for all family problems arising from the very young to the very old. They may be contacted via the surgery.

MIDWIVES

The midwives run antenatal and postnatal clinics in association with the doctors. They look after you during delivery and afterwards at home.

OTHERS

We make frequent use of the services of community psychiatric nurses (for counselling and relaxation), chiropodists (foot care), dieticians and physiotherapists.

RECEPTIONISTS

Our receptionists are here to help you. They have a difficult and busy job so please be patient. When telephoning for medical attention, the receptionist may ask for a few details; this will enable us to help you in the most appropriate way.

OFFICE

The practice is fully computerised. Lisa Jones is our systems manager and is responsible for all computer data collection. The practice secretary is Mrs Tina Grant and she is available to answer any queries regarding hospital referrals and insurance medical reports.

THE PRACTICE MANAGER

Mrs Sue Rogers is in charge of all non-medical matters relating to the practice. She is available to discuss any suggestions or complaints.
